Everything in this pack is licensed under CC BY-SA 4.0, the same license as the OpenMoji emoji it is based on, except the two fonts in browser/fonts/, which are under the SIL Open Font License 1.1 (see browser/fonts/FONTS-LICENSE.txt). That means you can use, share, and remix these files, including in commercial projects and including giving copies to others, as long as you credit OpenMoji. If you share an adapted version of these files, the adaptation must also be under CC BY-SA 4.0. Using a piece inside a larger work does not put the whole work under that license. Crediting inkmeascii.com is optional: we do not require it, though a link is always appreciated. Your payment supports the site and the work of making these conversions. It does not buy exclusive rights, and it does not give you any rights beyond what the license already gives everyone. Much of this art is also free to view on inkmeascii.com. Questions before you buy
What exactly do I get?
One ZIP, about 54 MB, with 33,936 art files for all 1,616 pieces in 11 categories:
- 25,856 text files: every piece in 4 character sets (Classic Gradient, Blocky and Bold, Classic, Extended Detail) and 4 sizes.
- 6,464 PNGs, 4 per piece: on dark, on light, and transparent with dark or light ink.
- 1,616 SVGs.
- An offline browser: open
index.htmlto search, preview and copy any piece, no internet needed. index.jsonandindex.csv, a README and the license files.
PNG and SVG come in one style and size only: Classic Gradient, 60 characters wide. The text files cover every style and size. The character sets are the same ones the site's generator and dictionary use.
Can I just use the free pieces on the site?
Yes. Hundreds of pieces are free on the ASCII Art Dictionary, one at a time, under the same license. The library is for when you want the whole set at once, in every format.
How do I get the files after I pay?
Right after you pay, Dodo Payments emails you a download link. The download also stays in the Dodo customer portal (the link is in your receipt email): open it, enter the email you paid with, and you get a sign-in link.
What does pay what you want mean?
You choose the price. The minimum is $3 and the suggested amount is $9. Every price gets exactly the same files.
If anyone can share it, why pay?
Fair question. You are paying for the whole set, already converted into every character set, size and format, sorted and indexed in one download. That saves you converting and saving pieces one at a time. Your payment also supports the site. It does not buy exclusive rights: the license is the same for everyone.
Can I use it in commercial work, like an app, game or video?
Yes. CC BY-SA 4.0 allows commercial use. Credit OpenMoji (crediting us is optional). If you share an edited piece, it stays CC BY-SA 4.0. Putting a piece in your app, game or video does not put the whole project under that license. The full terms are in LICENSE.txt.
How do I credit it?
The required credit is for OpenMoji: Emoji art adapted from OpenMoji. License: CC BY-SA 4.0, with links where you can. Crediting inkmeascii.com is optional. We don't require it, though a link is always appreciated. Both lines are in ATTRIBUTION.txt.
Why does my ASCII art look broken?
ASCII art only lines up in a monospace font such as Courier, Consolas, Menlo or DejaVu Sans Mono. In chat apps, paste it inside a code block. The PNGs and SVGs avoid the problem entirely.
I paid but did not get the email
Check your spam or promotions folder for an email from Dodo Payments. Then try the Dodo customer portal (the link is in your receipt email) with the email you paid with. Still stuck? Contact us and include that email.
